Project 8 – Aeropan VP in Ravenna

Aeropan VP, thanks to its minimum thickness and high insulating properties, was chosen for the energy redevelopment projects which are being carried out in a private apartment block in the province of Ravenna.

The building

We are in the province of Ravenna. Here is located the 2-storey building which will be the protagonist of the energy redevelopment project, at the hands of the company Jey.Bi in Ravenna.

The redevelopment project was designed – and carried out – in order not to interfere with the architectural elements of the building. The recovery and thermal improvement projects will benefit from the incentives listed in the Superbonus 110.

One of the sides of the building, which is located next to other similar apartment blocks, has very limited space available for the application of the external thermal insulation of the balconies and lodges. The building is, in fact, located on the maximum border with respect to the adjacent building and using “traditional” materials would have required crossing that limit, besides also causing an incredible reduction of the external spaces available. Thanks to the vacuum sealed Aeropan VP panels, we were able to achieve the results required by the current norms within the limits, without affecting the original spaces in an invasive way.

The installation of Aeropan VP

The existing layer of plaster is the main support where we will apply the Aeropan VP insulation system.

Aeropan VP is a high-performance system, which involves the use of an innovative insulator, with an incredibly low thickness. Consequently, the main requirement to obtain a correct installation is to guarantee a perfectly flat base support.

If the support is not completely flat, it is crucial to apply a compensation layer.

After ensuring the perfect flatness of the base, we proceeded with the application of the starting profile by marking the reference frame on the entire surface.

The precision in the application of the panels in the first row is, indeed, decisive in the overall quality of the installation. The panels always have to be placed from the bottom up and intercalated; Aeropan VP must never be cut or drilled.

At this stage, we applied the glue with a notched trowel (8-10 cm teeth).

By applying an adequate pressure, we evenly spread the glue, making sure to cover the entire surface of the Aeropan VP panel. We left a small perimetral space of around 10 mm clean (without glue). This was done in order to avoid the overflow of the glue which, under the pressure of the structure, might slip inside the joints of the panels, thus possibly creating thermal bridges.

After the installation of the Aeropan VP panels we proceeded with the shaving of the panels, by using the screed adhesive that we previously used during the installation process.

Aeropan VP, the evolution of siliceous Aerogel products

Developed with the aim of guaranteeing the highest level of thermal insulation, this product has a high technological content and is the result of advanced productive procedures.

The extremely high insulating properties ensure unmatched performances, allowing us to achieve the highest levels of insulation in various applications in construction and industrial domains and, more in general, wherever traditional insulation products may have application limits.

Aeropan VP’s performances are all achieved thanks to its nanotechnological Aerogel core; the nanopores drastically reduce the transmission of energy and, consequently, the thermal conductibility by contact is reduced to the minimum.

The addition of specific and selected mattifying products helps minimizing the emission of infrared radiations.

Aeropan VP is then transformed in a vacuum-sealed panel, hence avoiding any thermal transmission by convection.

The core of Aeropan VP is heat-sealed in a vacuum-sealed metallized multilayer film. The incredibly low internal pressure and the core of the microporous panel allow us to reach extremely low values of thermal conductibility.

Aeropan VP enables a reduction of the thickness up to 10 times compared to traditional insulation products while still maintaining the same insulating properties in terms of thermal transmittance.

The Aeropan VP panel is available in 2 different versions:

Aeropan VP a naked panel, suitable for applications in cavities and where a dry finishing is needed.
Aeropan VP-R a double coated panel with a 3 mm cement slab for applications in which a direct finishing is needed or when a higher resistance to impact and superficial abrasion are required.

The Aeropan VP metallized plastic multilayered film must not be damaged by holes, cuts, milling or riveting; in these cases, the internal pressure of the panel will rise, and its special properties will be compromised.
